Scrapbook essentials - 3 ideas on how to easily make your scrapbooks more interesting

Are you considering making a scrapbook for a boyfriend or girlfriend? This blog post will help you to make it more interesting and exciting by introducing 3 ideas for adding hidden gifts plus other ways of adding interesting and interactive pages to really impress them.

Photos albums and basic scrapbooks can look really nice with the photos just displayed very simply onto the pages in a minimalist way, but what if you want them to look a bit more interesting? Or would like the person looking through them to be wowed and really engage with the experience?

Well today I am going to show you 3 ways to add some interest to your scrapbook to both captivate and entertain the person looking through it. If you would like to see these examples on video, check out my youtube channel here.

Example one - using shaped frames to display photos

This example applies really well if the scrapbook is being made about or for someone special. A heart frame for a loved one or special person conveys how you feel about them and can speak volumes just by itself. This can be made even more special if we add some dimension by building the frame on 'blocks' by using double sided adhesive foam tape or pads and then behind the frame we can tuck a little surprise such as a little succession of photos in the same shape that pull out like a string of bunting or a concertina heart which has photos added. These extra elements can be tucked back behind the frame to surprise the person when they are revealed.

Example 2 - adding opening doors

Anything that opens up is a great addition to a scrapbook, as the person who opens the door will feel like they are opening up a special present. This can be made even more exciting if the door reveals a surprise behind it - like an engagement ring for a proposal, or some tickets to an event. Doors in scrapbooks can be very simple folded pieces of card which are added with a ribbon tie to the back to keep the doors tied closed or one that tucks in on itself like an envelope flap.

Example 3 - adding edges to pages

Most scrapbooks will have pages that are all the same size, but consider making the book a bit more interesting by adding page edges, tabs or even changing the length of pages and adding letters at the end of each page to spell a word. This could be a simple word like 'LOVE' or spell out an event like 'ENGAGEMENT', 'CHRISTMAS', or a person's name. You can do this by cutting an indent in the top part of each page and adding a letter on each page so the whole word is visible on the first page.
